The Power of Consistency
続ける力
このチャンネルでは、いろいろな話題を通して、自然な日本語にふれていきます。
On this channel, we experience natural Japanese through many different topics.
日本語で、新しい世界を少しずつ広げていきましょう。
Let's gradually expand our world in Japanese.
この動画では、続ける力について話をします。
In this video, we will talk about the power of keeping going.
何かを始めるとき、最初はやる気があります。
When we start something, we often feel motivated at first.
日本語の勉強を始めたり、本を読んだり、運動をしたり、日記を書いたりするとき、最初は「がんばろう」と思うことが多いです。
When we start studying Japanese, reading books, exercising, or writing a diary, we often think, I will do my best.
でも、それを続けるのは、思っているより簡単ではありません。
But continuing is not as easy as we might think.
忙しい日もあれば、疲れている日もあります。
Some days are busy, and some days we are tired.
気分が乗らない日もあります。
There are also days when we do not feel like doing it.
人はいつも、同じ元気でいられるわけではありません。
People cannot always have the same energy every day.
それでも、小さなことを続ける力は、とても大きいです。
Even so, the power of continuing small things is very great.
たとえば、毎日10分だけ勉強すると、1年で60時間以上になります。
For example, if you study for just ten minutes every day, it becomes more than sixty hours in one year.
1回の時間は短くても、積み重なると、大きな時間になります。
Even if each time is short, when it adds up, it becomes a large amount of time.
読むこと、聞くこと、体を動かすこと、書くこと。
Reading, listening, moving your body, and writing.
そうした小さなが、少しずつ自分を変えていきます。
Small actions like these gradually change who we are.
続けることは、特別な人だけができることではありません。
Continuing is not something only special people can do.
大切なのは、最初から大きく始めることではなく、自分が無理なくできる小さな方法で始めることです。
What matters is not starting big from the beginning, but starting in a small way that you can do without strain.
途中で止まっても、また戻ってくれば大丈夫です。
Even if you stop along the way, it is okay if you come back again.
小さな行動には、どんな力があるのでしょうか。
What kind of power do small actions have?
続けることで、私たちはどう変わっていくのでしょうか。
How do we change by continuing?
そして、続けるためには、どんな工夫ができるのでしょうか。
And what can we do to keep going?
The Power of a Small Step
小さな一歩の力
大きな変化は、急に起きるわけではありません。
Big changes do not happen suddenly.
多くの場合、小さなことのから生まれます。
In many cases, they are born from the accumulation of small things.
たとえば、本を読む習慣を考えてみましょう。
For example, let's think about the habit of reading books.
一度にたくさん読まなくても、少しずつ読めば、時間がたつほど読んだ量は増えていきます。
Even if you do not read a lot at once, if you read little by little, the amount you have read increases over time.
単語を覚えることも同じです。
The same is true for learning vocabulary.
一回でたくさん覚えようとすると、疲れてしまいます。
If you try to memorize many words at once, you will get tired.
でも、少しずつ新しい言葉に出会っていけば、知っている言葉も自然に増えていきます。
But if you meet new words little by little, the words you know will naturally increase.
このように、小さな行動は、すぐには大きく見えません。
In this way, small actions do not look big right away.
けれど、続けていくと、あとから大きな力になります。
But if you continue them, they become a great strength later.
私たちは、小さなことを軽く見てしまうことがあります。
Sometimes we look down on small things.
短い時間では意味がない、少しだけでは変わらないと思ってしまうことがあります。
We may think a short time has no meaning, or that doing only a little will not change anything.
でも、そう考えてしまうと、始める前に止まってしまいます。
But if we think that way, we stop before we even begin.
本当に大切なのは、一日で大きく変わることではありません。
What truly matters is not changing greatly in one day.
小さくても、前に進む時間を作ることです。
It is making time to move forward, even a little.
日本語には、「千里の道も一歩から」というがあります。
In Japanese, there is a proverb: Even a journey of a thousand ri begins with one step.
千里とは、とても長い道のことです。
A thousand ri means a very long road.
どんなに長い道も、最初の一歩から始まります。
No matter how long the road is, it begins with the first step.
その一歩は小さいかもしれません。
That step may be small.
でも、その一歩がなければ、どこにも進めません。
But without that step, you cannot go anywhere.
日本語の勉強も同じです。
Studying Japanese is the same.
一日で、すべて分かるようにはなりません。
You will not understand everything in one day.
でも、少しずつ日本語にふれることで、聞く力や読む力は育っていきます。
But by touching Japanese little by little, your listening and reading skills will grow.
最初は、短い文章を読むだけでも時間がかかるかもしれません。
At first, even reading a short sentence may take time.
それでも、何度も日本語にふれていると、同じ言葉に出会うことが増えます。
Even so, if you encounter Japanese many times, you will meet the same words more often.
その中で、少しずつ意味が分かるようになります。
Through that, you gradually begin to understand their meanings.
大切なのは、に始めることではありません。
What matters is not starting perfectly.
小さくても、まず始めることです。
It is starting first, even in a small way.
そして、自分が無理なくできる方法で、その行動を続けていくことです。
And it is continuing that action in a way you can manage without strain.
What Changes When You Keep Going
続けると何が変わるか
何かを始めたばかりの時、それは難しく感じます。
When you have just started something, it feels difficult.
新しい言葉を覚えたり、新しい運動をしたり、早起きをしたり、本を読む習慣を作ったりするとき、最初は少し大変です。
When learning new words, doing a new exercise, waking up early, or building a reading habit, it is a little hard at first.
なぜなら、まだていないからです。
That is because you are not used to it yet.
でも、何度もくり返すと、少しずつ楽になります。
But if you repeat it many times, it gradually becomes easier.
最初は考えながらやっていたことが、だんだん自然にできるようになります。
Something you first did while thinking carefully slowly becomes something you can do naturally.
たとえば、歯を磨くことを考えてみましょう。
For example, think about brushing your teeth.
多くの人は、毎日あまり考えずに歯を磨きます。
Many people brush their teeth every day without thinking much about it.
でも、子どものころは、歯ブラシの持ち方や動かし方を練習していたはずです。
But when they were children, they must have practiced how to hold and move the toothbrush.
今は、それがになっています。
Now, it has become a habit.
習慣になると、毎回強いやる気がなくても、体が自然に動きます。
When something becomes a habit, your body moves naturally even without strong motivation every time.
日本語の勉強も、これに少し似ています。
Studying Japanese is a little similar to this.
最初は、ひらがなを読むだけでも大変かもしれません。
At first, even reading hiragana may be difficult.
でも、日本語にふれる時間が増えると、目が少しずつ慣れていきます。
But as the time you spend with Japanese increases, your eyes gradually get used to it.
最初は聞き取れなかった言葉も、何度も聞くうちに、耳に残るようになります。
Words you could not hear at first begin to remain in your ears after you hear them many times.
そして、前は分からなかった言葉が、自然に分かるが出てきます。
Then moments appear when words you did not understand before become clear naturally.
続けることで、できなかったことが、少しできるようになります。
By continuing, things you could not do become things you can do a little.
難しかったことが、少し楽になります。
Things that were difficult become a little easier.
これが、続けることの大きな力です。
This is the great power of continuing.
ただし、続けるためには、完璧をしすぎないことも大切です。
However, to keep going, it is also important not to aim for perfection too much.
毎回100パーセントでがんばろうとすると、疲れてしまいます。
If you try to do your best at one hundred percent every time, you will get tired.
疲れると、続けることが嫌になってしまいます。
When you get tired, continuing starts to feel unpleasant.
だから、少し軽いくらいで続ける方が、長く続きやすいです。
So continuing at a slightly lighter level often makes it easier to keep going for a long time.
時間がある日は少し多めにやって、忙しい日はほんの少しだけでも大丈夫です。
On days when you have time, you can do a little more. On busy days, even a tiny bit is okay.
大切なのは、できなかった日をとして終わらせないことです。
What matters is not ending a day you could not do it as a failure.
休んでしまった日があっても、次にまた始めれば、それも続きになります。
Even if there is a day when you rest, if you start again next time, that is also part of continuing.
続ける人は、一度も止まらない人ではありません。
A person who continues is not someone who never stops.
止まっても、また戻ってくる人です。
It is someone who comes back even after stopping.
この考え方があると、続けることは少し楽になります。
With this way of thinking, continuing becomes a little easier.
What Consistent People Value
続けている人が大切にしていること
何かを長く続けている人には、していることがあります。
People who continue something for a long time have something in common.
それは、特別な日だけがんばるのではなく、ふだんの小さな行動を大切にしていることです。
They value small everyday actions, not only working hard on special days.
世界でした人たちも、才能だけで結果を出したわけではありません。
People who have succeeded around the world did not get results from talent alone.
毎日の習慣を、長く続けてきました。
They continued their daily habits for a long time.
たとえば、は、世界で有名な投資家です。
For example, Warren Buffett is a world-famous investor.
バフェットは、本や新聞をよく読むことで知られています。
Buffett is known for reading many books and newspapers.
毎日多くのにふれることで、知識を深めてきました。
By taking in a lot of information every day, he has deepened his knowledge.
知識は、一日で急に増えるものではありません。
Knowledge does not suddenly increase in one day.
読むことと考えることをくり返す中で、少しずつ深くなっていきます。
It grows deeper little by little through repeated reading and thinking.
日本の作家、さんも、続ける力を大切にしている人の一人です。
The Japanese writer Haruki Murakami is also one person who values the power of continuing.
村上さんは、決まった生活のリズムを大切にしながら、書くことを続けてきました。
Murakami has continued writing while valuing a fixed rhythm in his daily life.
また、走ることも長く続けています。
He has also continued running for a long time.
文章を書くことも、体を動かすことも、一度だけで大きな結果が出るものではありません。
Neither writing nor moving your body brings big results after doing it just once.
でも、長く続けることで、自分の力になっていきます。
But by continuing for a long time, they become your own strength.
日本の野球選手のさんも、毎日の準備を大切にしていたことで知られています。
The Japanese baseball player Ichiro is also known for valuing daily preparation.
の前に体を整え、同じ動きをくり返し、一つ一つの準備をていねいに行いました。
Before games, he prepared his body, repeated the same movements, and carefully did each piece of preparation.
こうした行動は、とてもに見えるものではありません。
These actions do not look very flashy.
でも、長く続けると、大きな差になります。
But if you continue them for a long time, they create a big difference.
ここで大切なのは、有名な人と自分を比べすぎないことです。
The important thing here is not to compare yourself too much with famous people.
同じことを、同じ量だけする必要はありません。
You do not need to do the same thing in the same amount.
大切なのは、自分の生活に合う、小さなやり方にすることです。
What matters is making it a small method that fits your own life.
読むことでも、書くことでも、体を動かすことでも、今の自分に合う大きさで始めればいいのです。
Whether it is reading, writing, or moving your body, you can start at a size that fits you now.
大きな結果の前には、小さな行動があります。
Before big results, there are small actions.
その小さな行動を、今日できるで始めることが大切です。
It is important to start those small actions within the range you can do today.
Ways to Keep Going
続けるための工夫
ここからは、続けるためのを見ていきます。
From here, let's look at some ways to keep going.
難しい方法ではありません。
They are not difficult methods.
まず大切なのは、とても小さく始めることです。
First, what matters is starting very small.
新しい習慣を始める時、私たちは大きなを作りすぎることがあります。
When we begin a new habit, we sometimes make goals that are too big.
たとえば、最初から長い時間勉強しようとしたり、たくさん運動しようとしたり、多くのページを読もうとしたりすると、気持ちは前向きでも、続けるのが大変になります。
For example, if you try to study for a long time, exercise a lot, or read many pages from the beginning, even if your feelings are positive, continuing becomes difficult.
もちろん、そうした目標はです。
Of course, those goals are admirable.
でも、最初から大きすぎると、続ける前に疲れてしまうことがあります。
But if they are too big from the start, you may get tired before you can continue.
だから、最初は簡単すぎるくらいで大丈夫です。
So at first, it is okay if it feels almost too easy.
ノートを開いて一つだけ単語を見る、短い文章を一つだけ読む、を少しだけ聞く。
Open a notebook and look at just one word, read just one short sentence, or listen to a little audio.
そのくらい小さくすると、始めやすくなります。
If you make it that small, it becomes easier to begin.
次に、今ある習慣につなげることです。
Next, connect it to a habit you already have.
たとえば、朝の飲み物のあとに日本語を聞いたり、夜の歯みがきのあとに単語を見たりすると、すでにしている行動と新しい習慣がつながります。
For example, if you listen to Japanese after your morning drink, or look at vocabulary after brushing your teeth at night, an existing action and a new habit become connected.
このようにすると、新しい習慣を忘れにくくなります。
Doing this makes it harder to forget the new habit.
見える場所に置くことも、とても役に立ちます。
Putting things where you can see them is also very helpful.
本を読みたいなら机の上に置き、日本語を聞きたいならスマートフォンの見やすい場所にアプリを置きます。
If you want to read a book, put it on your desk. If you want to listen to Japanese, put the app somewhere easy to see on your smartphone.
運動したいなら、使うものを見える場所に置いておくと、思い出しやすくなります。
If you want to exercise, keeping the things you use in a visible place makes it easier to remember.
思い出す回数が増えると、始めるきっかけも増えます。
When the number of times you remember increases, the chances to begin also increase.
をつけることも、続ける助けになります。
Keeping a record can also help you continue.
カレンダー、ノート、アプリなど、方法は何でもいいです。
A calendar, notebook, app, or any other method is fine.
できたことが見えると、少しうれしくなります。
When you can see what you have done, it makes you a little happy.
続いていることが見えると、もう少し続けたくなります。
When you can see that you are continuing, you want to continue a little more.
ただし、記録は自分をためのものではありません。
However, records are not for blaming yourself.
できなかった日を見て、自分を否定する必要はありません。
You do not need to look at a day you could not do it and deny yourself.
記録は、自分をために使うものです。
Records are tools for encouraging yourself.
そして、できない日があっても、次に戻れば大丈夫です。
And even if there is a day when you cannot do it, it is okay if you come back next time.
忙しい日もあれば、体調が悪い日もあります。
Some days are busy, and some days you do not feel well.
気分が乗らない日もあります。
There are also days when you do not feel like doing it.
そんな日は、休むことも必要です。
On those days, resting is also necessary.
続ける力とは、休まない力ではありません。
The power of continuing is not the power to never rest.
休んだあとに、また始められる力です。
It is the power to start again after resting.
