ウォルト・ディズニーは、ミッキーマウスやディズニーランドで有名ゆうめいな人ひとです。

Walt Disney is famous for Mickey Mouse and Disneyland.

子こどものころから絵えを描かくことが好すきでした。

He loved drawing from the time he was a child.

そして、大人おとなになるとアニメーションの仕事しごとを始はじめます。

When he grew up, he began working in animation.

しかし、最初さいしょから成功せいこうしたわけではありません。

However, he was not successful from the beginning.

会社かいしゃがうまくいかなくなったこともありました。

There were times when his company struggled.

大切たいせつなキャラクターを失うしなったこともあります。

He also lost an important character.

それでも、新あたらしいアイデアを考かんがえ、何なん度ども挑戦ちょうせんしました。

Even so, he kept coming up with new ideas and trying again and again.

今回こんかいは、そんなウォルト・ディズニーの人生じんせいを見みていきましょう。

Today, let us look at the life of Walt Disney.

1901年ねん、アメリカのシカゴで生うまれました。

He was born in Chicago, United States, in 1901.

子こどものころ、家族かぞくとミズーリ州しゅうで生活せいかつしていました。

As a child, he lived with his family in Missouri.

小ちいさいころから、絵えを描かくことが好すきでした。

He loved drawing from an early age.

動物どうぶつや、まわりにあるものをよく見みて、絵えを描かいていました。

He carefully observed animals and the things around him and drew pictures of them.

7歳さいのころには、自分じぶんが描かいた絵えを近所きんじょの人ひとに売うったこともありました。

By the age of seven, he had even sold some of his drawings to people in his neighborhood.

その後ご、家族かぞくとシカゴへ移うつります。

Later, he moved to Chicago with his family.

高校こうこうでは、絵えや写真しゃしんに興味きょうみを持もっていました。

In high school, he was interested in drawing and photography.

学校がっこうの外そとでも、絵えについて勉強べんきょうしました。

He also studied art outside school.

絵えを描かく仕事しごとがしたい。

He wanted to make a living by drawing.

そんな気持きもちを持もちながら、少すこしずつ自分じぶんの道みちを探さがしていきました。

With that dream in mind, he gradually began searching for his own path.

若わかいころ、カンザスシティで絵えの仕事しごとを始はじめました。

As a young man, he began working as an artist in Kansas City.

広告こうこくのための絵えなどを描かいていました。

He drew illustrations for advertisements and other projects.

その仕事しごとの中なかで、アニメーションについて学まなぶようになります。

Through this work, he began learning about animation.

絵えを少すこしずつ動うごかすと、映画えいがの中なかで本当ほんとうに動うごいているように見みえます。

When drawings are moved little by little, they appear to move for real in a film.

ウォルトは、この新あたらしい世界せかいに強つよく興味きょうみを持もちました。

Walt became deeply interested in this new world.

そして、自分じぶんのアニメーション会社がいしゃを作つくります。

He then started his own animation company.

会社かいしゃの名前なまえは、Laugh-O-Gram Filmsでした。

The company was called Laugh-O-Gram Films.

若わかい仲間なかまたちと一緒いっしょに、アニメーションを作つくりました。

He created animated films with a group of young colleagues.

しかし、会社かいしゃの経営けいえいはうまくいきませんでした。

However, the company did not do well financially.

仕事しごとを続つづけるためのお金かねがなくなり、会社かいしゃは終おわってしまいます。

It ran out of money to continue its work and eventually closed.

ウォルトにとって、大おおきな失敗しっぱいでした。

It was a major failure for Walt.

でも、ここで夢ゆめをあきらめませんでした。

But he did not give up on his dream.

新あたらしい場所ばしょで、もう一度いちど始はじめることにしました。

He decided to start again in a new place.

1923年ねん、ウォルトはカリフォルニアのハリウッドへ行いきました。

In 1923, Walt went to Hollywood, California.

そのとき、持もっているお金かねは多おおくありませんでした。

At the time, he did not have much money.

しかし、そこには兄あにのロイがいました。兄

However, his brother Roy was there.

ウォルトはロイと一緒いっしょに、新あたらしい会社かいしゃを始はじめます。

Walt started a new company with Roy.

ウォルトは映画えいがやキャラクターについて考かんがえました。

Walt developed ideas for films and characters.

ロイは、お金かねや会社かいしゃの仕事しごとを助たすけました。

Roy helped manage the money and business side of the company.

二人ふたりは一緒いっしょに会社かいしゃを大おおきくしていきます。

Together, the two brothers grew the company.

最初さいしょは、Alice Comediesという作品さくひんを作つくりました。

At first, they produced a series called Alice Comedies.

少すこしずつ仕事しごとが増ふえ、会社かいしゃも成長せいちょうしていきました。

Gradually, they received more work, and the company grew.

前まえの会社かいしゃでは失敗しっぱいしました。

His previous company had failed.

でも、その経験けいけんのあとに、もう一度いちど始はじめたのです。

But after that experience, he started again.

その後ご、ウォルトたちは、Oswaldというキャラクターを作つくりました。

Later, Walt and his team created a character named Oswald.

このキャラクターは人気にんきになりました。

The character became popular.

しかし、大おおきな問題もんだいが起おこります。

However, a serious problem arose.

ウォルトは、Oswaldを自由じゆうに使つかうための権利けんりを持もっていませんでした。

Walt did not own the rights needed to use Oswald freely.

そのため、大切たいせつなキャラクターを失うしなってしまいます。

As a result, he lost this important character.

とても大おおきなショックでした。

It was a tremendous shock.

でも、ウォルトは新あたらしいキャラクターを考かんがえます。

But Walt began thinking of a new character.

仲間なかまのアブ・アイワークスと一緒いっしょに作つくったのが、ミッキーマウスです。

The character he created with his colleague Ub Iwerks was Mickey Mouse.

1928年ねん、Steamboat Willieという映画えいがが公開こうかいされました。

In 1928, a film called Steamboat Willie was released.

映像えいぞうの動うごきと音おとを合あわせたアニメーションでした。

It was an animated film that synchronized movement with sound.

この映画えいがは人気にんきになり、ミッキーマウスも有名ゆうめいになっていきます。

The film became popular, and Mickey Mouse grew famous as well.

大おおきな失敗しっぱいのあとから、新あたらしいキャラクターが生うまれたのです。

A new character was born from the aftermath of a major failure.

ミッキーマウスが人気にんきになったあとも、ウォルトは新あたらしいことを考かんがえ続つづけました。

Even after Mickey Mouse became popular, Walt continued thinking of new ideas.

次つぎに挑戦ちょうせんしたのは、長ながいアニメーション映画えいがです。

His next challenge was a feature-length animated film.

当時とうじ、長ながいアニメーション映画えいがを作つくることは、とても大おおきな挑戦ちょうせんでした。

At the time, making a feature-length animated film was an enormous challenge.

たくさんの時間じかんとお金かねが必要ひつようです。

It required a great deal of time and money.

本当ほんとうに成功せいこうするのかと心配しんぱいする人ひともいました。

Some people worried that it might not succeed.

それでも、ウォルトと多おおくの仲間なかまたちは制作せいさくを続つづけました。

Even so, Walt and his large team continued working on the film.

そして1937年ねん、Snow White and　 the Seven Dwarfsが公開こうかいされます。

Then, in 1937, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was released.

日本にっぽんでは白雪しらゆき姫ひめという名前なまえで知しられています。

In Japan, it is known as Shirayukihime.

映画えいがは大おおきな成功せいこうをしました。

The film was a great success.

その後あとも、Pinocchio、Dumbo、Bambiなど、多おおくの作品さくひんが作つくられていきました。

Many more films followed, including Pinocchio, Dumbo, and Bambi.

ウォルト一人ひとりですべてを作つくったわけではありません。

Walt did not create everything by himself.

たくさんのアーティストや技術ぎじゅつ者しゃと一緒いっしょに、新あたらしい映画えいがを作つくっていったのです。

He worked with many artists and technicians to make new films.

映画えいがで成功せいこうしたあと、ウォルトには新あたらしい夢ゆめがありました。

After finding success in film, Walt had a new dream.

子こどもだけではなく、大人おとなも一緒いっしょに楽たのしめる場所ばしょを作つくりたいと考かんがえたのです。

He wanted to create a place where adults and children could have fun together.

それが、ディズニーランドでした。

That place was Disneyland.

当時とうじは、この計画けいかくに反対はんたいする人ひともいました。

At the time, some people opposed the plan.

大おおきなお金かねも必要ひつようでした。

It also required a large amount of money.

それでも、ウォルトは計画けいかくを続つづけました。

Even so, Walt continued with the project.

そして1955年ねん、カリフォルニアにディズニーランドがオープンしました。

In 1955, Disneyland opened in California.

映画えいがの中なかで見みていた世界せかいを、実際じっさいに歩あるいて楽たのしむことができる場所ばしょです。

It was a place where visitors could walk through and enjoy worlds they had previously seen only in films.

ウォルトはその後あとも、新あたらしい映画えいがやテレビ、テーマパークについて考かんがえ続つづけました。

Walt continued developing ideas for new films, television programs, and theme parks.

さらに、フロリダで大おおきな新あたらしいプロジェクトも計画けいかくしていました。

He also planned a major new project in Florida.

しかし、その完成かんせいを見みることはできませんでした。

However, he did not live to see it completed.

1966年ねん、ウォルト・ディズニーは亡なくなりました。

Walt Disney died in 1966.

65歳さいでした。

He was sixty-five years old.

今回こんかいは、ウォルト・ディズニーの人生じんせいを見みてきました。

Walt Disney's life included not only success but also many failures and difficulties.

それでも、新あたらしいものを作つくることをやめませんでした。

Even so, he never stopped creating new things.

小ちいさいころに絵えを描かくことが好すきだった少年しょうねんは、たくさんの仲間なかまと一緒いっしょに、世界中せかいじゅうの人ひとが楽たのしむ作品さくひんや場所ばしょを作つくるようになりました。

The boy who loved drawing grew up to create works and places enjoyed by people around the world, together with many colleagues.

今いまでも、ミッキーマウスやディズニーの映画えいがは、世界中せかいじゅうで知しられています。

Even today, Mickey Mouse and Disney films are known throughout the world.

一ひとつの夢ゆめから、新あたらしい夢ゆめへ。

From one dream to the next.

ウォルト・ディズニーは、生涯しょうがいを通とおして新あたらしいことに挑戦ちょうせんし続つづけました。
